ABSTRACT

Observations, having clinical and therapeutic implications, with the use of noninvasive continuous Transcutaneous arterial oxygen monitoring in sick newborns are being reported, Crying, bottle feeding, putting up an intravenous drip and opening of the incubator ports, were all associated with a significant fall in arterial oxygen tension in sick neonates. Hyperoxemia was seen with fraction of inspiratory oxygen [FiO2] as low as 30 to 35%. The continuous Transcutaneous arterial oxygen tension [TcPaO2] monitoring is recommended in sick newborns
